Clarify the question
Separate the wording of the text from its interpretation and truthfulness. A question about a manuscript difference is not the same as a question about a miracle.
Read in context
Consider the literary form, intended audience, and surrounding passage. Poetry, a historical account, and a letter invite different kinds of reading.
Follow the evidence
Choose a specific claim, consult the passage, and compare careful explanations. Keep track of what is established, what is disputed, and what remains uncertain.
